The Master and Margarita
The Master and Margarita was written between 1928 and 1940 in the Soviet Union while Stalin was in power. After the writer's death a censored version was published in Moscow magazine in 1966-1967.
A self-published version circulated in the Russian underground which included parts to the story which were censored by officials. It was incorporated into a book in 1969 published in Frankfurt.
